The Village Family Services Announces New Transitional Housing Facility in Los Angeles: The Oaks Transitional Housing Facility
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Encino, California – April 2025
The Village Family Services, a leading nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of foster youth, families, and unhoused youth, is proud to announce the addition of a 26-room, 38-bed transitional housing facility in Los Angeles’s San Fernando Valley. Set to open in Fall 2025, this new housing facility, newly dubbed “The Oaks,” will empower transition-age youth ages 18-24 with the tools and foundation for lasting success in housing and beyond in collaboration with our operational partner, Hope The Mission.
“The needs of unhoused and foster youth continue to grow and The Village is here to respond with the services and resources they need,” says Hugo Villa, LMFT, Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer. “When we marry supportive and safe housing with compassionate, culturally appropriate, and trauma informed mental health services, we are setting young people up to have the skills, stability and confidence they need to thrive. This housing project will help us achieve these goals and set young people on the path for success and stability.”
Addressing a Critical Need
Housing is the first step to establishing stability. Each year, thousands of young people in California experience the trauma of being unhoused. Often, they also lack access to education, employment opportunities, health care and other essential resources. For over 27 years, The Village has existed to address these needs, but our work is not done. In Los Angeles County alone, over 30% of youth leaving foster care experience homelessness within two years. The Village Family Services’ new facility is a direct response to this crisis, providing a safe, and supportive community where futures are built.
About the Facility
The Oaks, a former motel, has been transformed into a welcoming, modern transitional housing facility that will be a secure home base for 38 young people for up to two years. In their time at The Oaks, not only will they experience the safety and peace of consistent housing, but they will have access to myriad other essential resources, delivered by best-in-field service providers from The Village Family Services. The Oaks will feature:
- 22 Private Rooms and four shared rooms
- Shared Common Areas: Spaces designed for community-building, including a lounge, kitchen, and outdoor recreational areas
- On-Site Support Services: Comprehensive resources including case management, mental health counseling, job readiness training, financial literacy workshops, and life skills development
- 24/7 Staffing: Ensuring a safe and supportive environment at all times
This initiative is made possible through partnerships with local government agencies, community organizations, and the generosity of donors who believe in creating brighter futures for youth.
A Path Toward Independence
Residents of The Oaks will benefit from individualized support tailored to their unique goals and challenges. With a focus on education, employment, and mental wellness, The Village Family Services aims to empower youth to achieve long-term stability and independence. The ultimate goal of the project is to set these young people up for success so they can find permanency and stability after their time at The Oaks.
“What excites me most about The Oaks is the sense of community and possibility it represents,” added Villa. “These young adults deserve more than just a roof over their heads—they deserve connection, guidance, and the chance to pursue their goals without fear. We’re here to walk alongside them as they take the next steps toward independence and a future they can be proud of.”
Save the Date
The transitional housing unit will officially open its doors in Fall 2025. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house will be held to celebrate this milestone and welcome the community to see the impact of this vital project.
