The holidays are a very special time at The Village. One highlight is our Drop-In Center’s Thanksgiving for homeless youth. Our staff serves a delicious meal and distributes donated clothing, hygiene kits, and gift cards to young people who have nowhere else to turn.
Among this year’s attendees was a bubbly, outgoing young woman named Kameron. Her smile radiated as she dined and chatted with our staff.
Kameron shared that she had been living in her car a short distance from the Drop-In Center for the past couple of months. A difficult relationship break-up had left her without a place to live. With no strong ties to her family, at just 18, Kameron was left to figure things out on her own.
Although she could never have imagined herself in this dire situation, Kameron expressed optimism. “I want to find a good job so I can afford a place of my own.”
What began as a simple holiday get-together turned into a life-changing connection.
The Drop-In Center has become a safe space for Kameron. As a new client, she’s receiving the emotional support she needs from a dedicated staff team who are also helping her find safe, stable housing.
“Every time I come to The Village, I get the help I need. Warm food, new clothing, and people who hear me out. I feel welcome.”
Next up for Kameron is working with our employment specialists to find a job that will enable her to live self-sufficiently.
“I know I’ll be able to do it with the help of The Village.”
