The Village Family Services (TVFS) is proud to announce that Alejandro Soria, our Senior Director of Outpatient Mental Health, has been appointed by LA County Board Supervisors Chair Lindsey P. Horvath to serve on the county’s first-ever LGBTQ+ Commission. This historic appointment recognizes Alejandro’s decades of dedicated service to LGBTQ+ individuals and families throughout the San Fernando Valley.

The Commission, established through Board action in June 2023, comes at a crucial time when LGBTQ+ rights and protections face unprecedented challenges nationwide. As one of 15 inaugural commissioners, Alejandro will help advise the Board of Supervisors on issues affecting LGBTQ+ residents across Los Angeles County.

“I’m really excited and honored about this opportunity to serve my community,” said Soria, who has been an integral part of TVFS since 2014. “On this Commission, I would love to not just be LGBTQ+ affirming, especially as a gay man myself, but I also want to make sure I bring and push for mental health care.”

With over 20 years of experience providing therapeutic services to children, teens, and adults, Alejandro brings valuable expertise in treating trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship and family issues, with particular focus on LGBTQ+ youth and adults. At TVFS, he oversees crucial mental health programs and services while maintaining a private practice in the City of San Fernando.

Alejandro’s appointment reflects his deep commitment to addressing mental health needs within underserved communities. In his role at TVFS, he has witnessed firsthand the growing demand for mental health services, particularly among LGBTQ+ populations and homeless transitional-age youth.

“I facilitate homeless programs for transitional-age youth and adults and within these populations and in the LGBTQ+ populations, I’m seeing a growing need for mental health services,” Soria explained. He emphasizes the importance of addressing cultural barriers to mental health care and working to destigmatize seeking help.

Board Chair Horvath praised Soria’s expertise and passion for uplifting LGBTQ+ communities, stating that his appointment will help ensure “Los Angeles County is a place where everyone is welcomed, supported and empowered.”

We at The Village Family Services congratulate Alejandro on this well-deserved appointment and look forward to supporting his vital work on the Commission as he continues to advocate for mental health access and LGBTQ+ rights in our community.
