Alison (Ali) Bodager founded Jacaranda Rising after seeing how many transitional-aged youth (TAY) were expected to navigate adulthood without the support or guidance they deserved. Young people experiencing homelessness, facing housing instability, or aging out of foster care often carry enormous responsibilities while trying to build stable, independent lives. Through Jacaranda Rising, Ali and her team help youth strengthen practical life skills and move toward their goals with confidence and support.

Today, Jacaranda Rising partners with The Village Family Services to provide life skills workshops, employment support, and mentorship for youth participating in our Ending Youth Homelessness program, comprised of our housing navigation and Drop-In Center services. Ali leads with compassion and commitment. We are grateful for the partnership she and her volunteers bring to our community.

Ali, founder of Jacaranda RisingAli’s Lifelong Commitment

Ali knew from the age of 12 that she wanted to dedicate her career to helping others through nonprofit work. Before launching Jacaranda Rising in 2021, she worked with children and families in Skid Row through after-school programming that offered mentorship, guidance, and stability for young people navigating difficult circumstances.

Since its founding, Jacaranda Rising has become an important source of support for young adults ages 18 to 24 across the San Fernando Valley. Alongside a dedicated board and volunteer team, Ali creates workshops that focus on the real-life skills many young people are never formally taught. Youth practice budgeting, grocery shopping, apartment maintenance, job readiness, and other everyday responsibilities that strengthen long-term stability and independence.

Helping Youth Experiencing Homelessness Build Stability

David (name changed) recently connected with Jacaranda Rising while living at The Village’s housing facility in Chatsworth. At 18 years old, he attended workshops and worked closely with Ali to identify goals for his future. She introduced him to mentors in a career field that interested him and helped him create realistic next steps toward success.

With support from Jacaranda Rising and services provided through The Village, David earned his guard card and recently joined the Air Force. Today, he continues building a future grounded in stable housing, employment, and service to his community and country.

Community Partnerships Supporting Youth in Los Angeles

Partnerships like this strengthen the support we can provide to young people throughout our programs. We are deeply grateful to Ali and everyone at Jacaranda Rising for walking alongside youth as they discover their strengths, pursue their goals, and build brighter futures for themselves.
