We’re thrilled to share an exciting development at The Village Family Services: the upcoming opening of The Oaks, a new transitional housing facility nestled in the heart of Los Angeles’s San Fernando Valley. Scheduled to open in Fall 2025, this 26-room, 38-bed facility is designed to support transition-age youth (ages 18–24) as they work toward stable housing, independence, and brighter futures.

We’ve partnered with Hope The Mission to bring this vision to life. With 24/7 staff support and a trauma-informed approach, The Oaks will be a safe and empowering space where young people can heal, grow, and move forward.

More Than a Building
Formerly a motel, The Oaks has been thoughtfully transformed into a welcoming, modern home base for up to 38 young people. Here, residents will have access to 22 private rooms, four shared rooms, and community spaces like a kitchen, lounge, and outdoor areas perfect for gathering and relaxing.

But The Oaks is more than just a place to stay—it’s a place to thrive.

Volunteer Weekend
In the last week of January, a dedicated group of volunteers joined us in Encino to prepare The Oaks for its future residents. From painting walls to cleaning out rooms, their efforts marked the beginning of a new chapter for this building and the young lives it will soon support.

Supportive Services Around the Clock
Residents will receive personalized support tailored to their goals, from case management and mental health counseling to job training and educational support. Through our on-site services and access to The Village’s Drop-In Center, youth will gain tools for success—workshops, life skills development, and career readiness training.

Why This Matters Now
In Los Angeles County, over 30% of foster youth face homelessness within two years of aging out. A 2024 report by the California Policy Lab found that nearly one in four youth formerly in foster care reported having been homeless at some point between ages 21 and 23. These findings underscore the critical need for supportive housing and services for transition-age foster youth in the region. This is why The Oaks is so critical. It offers young adults not just a roof over their heads, but a community that cares and a foundation for long-term success.

You’re Invited to Be Part of the Journey
We can’t do this without you! Whether you’d like to donate, partner with us, or simply spread the word, your support makes a difference. There will also be exciting opportunities for involvement—like naming rights to common areas and partnership recognition.

Soon we will be announcing the “save the date” for our ribbon-cutting ceremony this upcoming fall. We’d love to celebrate this milestone with you and show you firsthand the incredible impact The Oaks will have on our community.

Donors have the unique opportunity for recognition at The Oaks. With every gift of $500 or more, you will be listed on The Giving Tree, our donor wall at the entrance of The Oaks—so every young person who walks through our doors knows that they have a community of neighbors cheering them on, that they have a support network that believes in them. Please contact us for more information.

Stay tuned for more updates—and thank you for being part of The Village.
